Shadows in the Woods is a co-oporative German-made board game for 2 - 8 players (suitable for children aged 5+). Adult supervision required because of the candle.
 
Like a game of hide-and-seek with candle light, the little gnomes try to hide in the shadows as the light from the candle tries to catch and freeze them. In the second version of the game, the gnomes have to walk through the shadows and jump over the fire. An adult is needed to supervise the game and move the candle. 
 
This is the original (deluxe) version of the game. Not to be mistaken with the American version "Shadows in the Forest". This German-made game uses a real tea-light candle, and the trees, die, and dwarves are made of wood (no plastic!).
 
The game consists of two playing options: the original game play, and an easier version.
 
First version:
The burning tea-light moves through the dark forest and tries to find the small dwarves in their hiding places. If a dwarf is touched by the light, it is frozen and not allowed to move any more. The other dwarves try to release it. All dwarves try to unite under one tree while the candle tries to freeze the dwarves. Who will win?
 
Second version:
The light remains stationary in one place. The dwarves must move through the shadows and jump over the light. A dwarf which has to stop in the shadow must wait until another player helps him by flashing him a ray of light. The game ends when all the dwarves have made it home safe and sound.
